Albert Bannwarth

Albert Lothar Joachim Bannwarth (born November 26, 1872 in Arnsberg , † April 2, 1947 ) was a German engineer and manager. He was general director of Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke Aktiengesellschaft (HEW).

Life

He came from the Bannwarth family, who had lived in Sigmaringen for over 300 years . After attending primary school and graduating from high school in Sigmaringen, he studied at the technical universities of Stuttgart and Hanover. He then worked from 1896 as an engineer at the Allgemeine Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft (AEG) in Berlin and in 1897 switched to Siemens & Halske. At the latter company he became office manager in Dresden in 1898 and chief engineer in Cologne in 1902 . In 1905 he moved to Hamburg. He later became director of the Hanseatic Siemens-Schuckert works there.

In December 1912 he was appointed director of Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke Aktiengesellschaft (HEW). From 1928 to 1930 he was a board member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). In 1933 he was a member of the supervisory board of Commerz- und Privatbank Hamburg-Berlin. After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Albert Bannwarth left the board of directors of HEW and retired.

In the winter of 1942/43 Albert Bannwarth wrote his memoirs, which are now in the Franz Keller estate in the Sigmaringen city archive, which is deposited in the Baden-Württemberg State Archive, Department State Archive Sigmaringen.

On the occasion of the new town hall in Sigmaringen, he donated a golden book to the city.

Immediately after the end of the Second World War, Albert Bannwarth was again General Director of HEW and remained so until his death in 1947.

Honors

  • 1924 Dr.-Ing. hc at the Technical University of Hanover, at the same time made an honorary citizen
  • In 1962, Bannwarthstrasse in Hamburg was named after him.
