Albert Burkat

Albert Burkat (born April 20, 1906 in Herne ; † December 11, 1975 ) was a German ballet dancer, dramaturge and librettist.

Life

After his dance training at the Folkwang School in Essen, he was engaged as a dancer at the local theater in 1937, as a soloist at the Hof- / Staatstheater Stuttgart from 1938 to 1939 and as a dancer at the German State Opera in Berlin from 1939 to 1944. From 1946 to 1955 he was artistic advisor in the ballet management and from 1951 as the official ballet dramaturge. As a librettist for Lilo Gruber's ballets, which are strictly committed to the doctrine of so-called socialist realism , and as the favorite librettist of the composer Victor Bruns , many collaborations that were important for the modern ballet of the GDR took place since 1953 . Burkat also worked with the composer Wolfgang Hohensee .

On March 30, 1960, Burkat and Victor Bruns were awarded the GDR Art Prize in the Apollo Hall of the German State Opera Unter den Linden .
