Albert Emmanuel Hyacinthe Clerc (born June 25, 1830 in Besançon , † June 10, 1918 in Saint-Denis-en-Val ) was a French chess player .

Chess successes

Clerc was among the strongest French chess players in the 1870s and 1880s. At the international tournament in Paris in 1878 he finished ninth, in 1883 he won the third French national tournament ( 3ème tournoi national ), a predecessor of the French championship . In May 1880, Clerc reached its highest historical rating of 2518. Clerc was also President of the Cercle des Echecs de Besançon and Honorary President of l'Académie Aixoise des Echecs .

Life

Clerc lived in Algeria from 1856 to 1871 , and later worked as a judge in Paris . In 1897 he was awarded the Order of Officer of the Legion of Honor .
