Albert Conrad (painter)

Julius Gustav Eduard Albert Conrad (born February 20, 1837 in Torgau , † June 5, 1887 in Berlin ) was a German painter and sculptor .

Life

He was the son of the sculptor Johann Gottlob Conrad the Elder (1804–1862) and Johanna Dorothea, née Budin. After attending the local boys' school, Conrad completed an apprenticeship as a sculptor. He learned to draw by himself. As early as 1852 he was represented with two paintings at an art exhibition in Munich . In 1856 Conrad moved to Berlin, where he initially worked as a salaried sculptor. He also attended the Berlin Academy of the Arts as a painting student ; there he was a master student of Ludwig Knaus . Setting up his own business as a painter, he undertook various study trips through Germany and Austria. In 1866 Conrad organized a painting exhibition in his hometown of Torgau. In 1880 he was represented at important exhibitions in Düsseldorf and in 1886 in Berlin.

Conrad devoted himself primarily to architecture, genre and history painting. He was a member of the Berlin Artists' Association. Works by him are in various galleries, such as the National Gallery Berlin .
