Frank's pieces are often characterized by an absurd sense of humor. In the comedy The President z. B., who plays in a German police station, the Commissioner Ullrich sets out on the trail of genetically manipulated bananas, while her colleague who suffers from a deaf phobia is confronted with a blackmailer, the "President", who has the resignation of the national coach and the sole power to decide which players are allowed to play in the German national soccer team .

Frank's most successful play, almost Faust , which has seen over 500 performances in German-speaking countries so far, is about the three people André, Heiner and Hannah (the "Dramenterzett") who set themselves the task of putting Goethe's drama Faust on the stage. They take on the 57 roles required for this alone, and since Hannah becomes pregnant like Goethe's Gretchen, André forces Heiner to also take on the Gretchen role.

The involvement of the audience is also typical of Frank's pieces, as in the piece Mahl! , in which the audience can fill out a questionnaire, assist the chef and finally eat with them.

In 2017 his crime novel Tod vor dem Steffl was published .
