Albert Gumbel

Albert Gümbel (born October 3, 1866 in Munich , † September 27, 1931 in Nuremberg ) was a German archivist .

Life

Albert Gümbel was a son of the geologist Carl Wilhelm von Gümbel in Munich. He attended grammar school in Munich and studied at the universities of Würzburg , Erlangen , Leipzig and Munich. During his studies in 1888 he became a member of the C. St. V. Uttenruthia Erlangen and the SBV Nordalbingia Leipzig . In 1892 he joined the Bavarian archives service and in 1900 he became the district archives secretary in Nuremberg and since then has been in the service of the local state archive until his death, most recently as senior archivist .

Gümbel gained notoriety, especially in art history research , through his numerous communications from Nuremberg sources, especially from the 15th and 16th centuries, which were published in magazines or as independent publications.
