Albert Köhler (politician)

Albert Köhler (born November 2, 1886 in Bad Lauterberg ; † July 21, 1955 in Werfenweng , Austria) was a Lower Saxony politician ( SPD ), a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament , a member of the Appointed Lower Saxony State Parliament and a member of the Appointed Hanover State Parliament .

Köhler attended elementary school and then began an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor. In 1911 he came to Celle . Between 1915 and 1918 he was in the army in the First World War . In November 1919 he started working as a carpenter on the Wietzer oil shaft. In April 1924 he switched to the Celler Volkszeitung as an employee , and was its managing director until 1933.

In 1929 he was elected councilor of the city of Celle. Between September 1933 and September 1937 he was employed as an emergency worker and construction worker. Between 1933 and 1945 he was under the surveillance of the Gestapo and was imprisoned in the concentration camp twice . From January 1939 to 1945 he worked as a transport worker at Wintershall (petroleum works). Most recently he worked there as a technical employee. In April 1945 he started a job with the city administration and in 1946 was elected mayor of the city of Celle. He was chairman of the SPD sub-district in Celle.

Public offices

From 1929 to 1933 Köhler was a member of the Hanover Provincial Parliament . He was also a member of the appointed Hanover State Parliament between August 23, 1946 and October 29, 1946. Between December 9, 1946 and March 28, 1947 he was a member of the appointed Lower Saxony State Parliament. He was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliaments in the first electoral period from April 20, 1947 to April 30, 1951.
