Albert Raasch

Albert Raasch (born December 6, 1930 in Großenbrode ) is a German linguist, Romance scholar and foreign language teacher .

Life

Raasch received his doctorate in 1957 and was a university professor from 1968. From 1973 until his retirement in 1999 he was a full professor for applied linguistics and French language teaching research at the Romance Studies Institute of Saarland University . Foreign language teaching was the focus of his research. Raasch developed various exercise books and vocabulary boxes for French lessons, as well as several specialist books. Even after his retirement he remained involved, among other things on the board of trustees of the Foundation for Franco-German Cultural Cooperation.

He paid particular attention to the bilingual German-French relations in the Saar-Lor-Lux region. In 1991 he founded the Saar Language Council , which he also headed until 2000. He set up a language center at the Saarland University.

In 2000 he was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit for his services in the Saar-Lor-Lux area . In 2013 he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was honored for his "long-term commitment to the German-French Society of Schleswig-Holstein and as a co-founder of the twinning between Kiel and Brest in 1964 as well as his diverse scientific activities serving the networking between Germany and France".
