Albert Schamoni (born October 20, 1906 in Hamm , † January 1945 missing on the Eastern Front ) was a painter and art teacher.

family

The father Wilhelm Schamoni (1867–1935) was a book auditor and founded the Hotel Kaiserhof in Hamm. The mother is Anna Schamoni, geb. Veltmann (1872-1907). Albert Schamoni's brothers are the Catholic theologian Wilhelm Schamoni (born January 4, 1905 in Hamm in Westphalia; † August 25, 1991 in Altötting) and the director Victor Schamoni (born December 6, 1901 in Hamm; † April 13, 1942 Russia) , Father of Victor, Peter , Thomas and Ulrich Schamoni . Albert Schamoni was married to Annette Engelmann (1903–1985).

Life

He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and met Otto Coester , with whom he developed a lifelong friendship. From 1933 he worked as a study assessor, from 1937 a teacher at the grammar school in Gelsenkirchen-Buer . In 1942 he was drafted as a soldier and has been missing on the Eastern Front (Vistula / Poland) since January 1945.

Works

Painter and graphic artist. Between 1926 and 1936 he worked several times with the Czech publishers Josef Florian , Josef Portman and Otto František Babler and illustrated 19 books published as hand press, including by Franz Kafka . The postponed work of Albert Schamoni saved his wife from the Second World War. Parts of it are family owned. A solo exhibition took place in Prague in 1992.
