from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert Scharenberg (born April 24, 1965 in Leer , East Frisia ) is a German political scientist and historian. He is co-director of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation's international office in New York City. Before that he was a lecturer for politics and North American studies at the Free University of Berlin as well as editor and partner of the papers for German and international politics .

Scharenberg studied at the University of Marburg , the University of Illinois and at the Free University of Berlin, where he obtained a master's degree in modern history with Jürgen Kocka and with Wolf-Dieter Narr with his work on Black Nationalism in the USA. The Malcolm X Revival for Dr. phil. PhD.

In September 2007 it became known through media reports that the Presidium of the Free University of Berlin was blocking Scharenberg's appointment as junior professor for North American politics - apparently for political reasons. According to this, Scharenberg's work on the board of trustees of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation should be a thorn in the side of the FU President Dieter Lenzen . In October 2007, more than 200 scientists supported Scharenberg's appointment in an open letter to Lenzen.

Albert Scharenberg was a member of the working committee of the Committee for Fundamental Rights and Democracy eV from 1999 to 2011 and chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung from 2009–2011.
