Albert Wendt (teacher)

Karl Albert Wendt (born May 4, 1851 in Freienwalde in Pomerania ; † August 16, 1932 ) was a German senior teacher and promoter of toy production in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Life

Albert Wendt came from Pomerania and initially completed an apprenticeship as a wood turner. From 1868 he attended the teachers' college in the West Pomeranian town of Pölitz for three years and after his military service worked as a teacher in Freienwalde. Later he attended the commercial and art academy in Berlin until he received the state examination . From 1879 he worked as a teacher in the Brandenburg town of Jüterbog . Since 1884 Albert Wendt was the head teacher of the technical college for toy makers in Grünhainichen in the Ore Mountains . At that time, Grünhainichen was, along with Seiffen, one of the centers of the traditional Erzgebirge toy production, and Albert Wendt played a key role in ensuring that this flourished to its full potential before the First World War. He worked closely with his friend, Saxon folklorist Oskar Seyffert .

In 1919 Albert Wendt retired.

He was married to Hedwig Wendt since 1876. Margarete Wendt was born in 1887 as the fourth of a total of five children who were married, and Albert Wendt recognized and encouraged her artistic and entrepreneurial talent at an early stage. With his support, his daughter founded the general partnership “M.” together with Margarete Kühn in 1915 . Wendt et al. M. Kühn ” .
