Career

Albert Yvel, of Jewish faith, became a professional boxer at the age of 18. His first twelve fights, all of which he won, were played exclusively in his hometown of Algiers . In 1948 he won the right to challenge the French master Emile Bentz by defeating Assane Diouf on April 19, 1947 in Tunis and over Lucien Corenthin on February 19, 1948 in Paris . This fight took place on March 8, 1948 in Paris and ended with a knockout victory for Emile Bentz in the 8th round.

In the rematch of these two boxers, which was not about the French championship, won on July 3, 1948 in Algiers Albert Yvel by knockout in the 8th round over Bentz. On November 20, 1948 Albert Yvel then won the French light heavyweight championship title in Algiers by winning points after 15 rounds over Lucien Corenthin, who had meanwhile taken the title from Emile Bentz. Albert Yvel successfully defended this title on April 8, 1950 in Algiers against the Armenian Jacques Hairabedian, who was naturalized in France, through a techn. KO victory in the 6th round.

Albert Yvel then received from the European Boxing Union the right to fight against the Italian Renato Tontini for the vacant European light heavyweight title on July 9, 1950 in Algiers . He won this fight because Tontini had to be disqualified in the 10th round. He also succeeded in winning this title on December 30, 1950 in Algiers by a techn. KO victory in the 8th round over the Spaniard Paco Bueno to defend.

On March 27, 1951, Albert Yvel lost the European Championship in Kensington, London , to the British Don Cockell , against whom he had to be taken out of the fight in the 6th round.

In the following months Albert Yvel fought three times in the Federal Republic of Germany . But he had to accept three short-term defeats against Gerhard Hecht , Herbert Kleinwächter and Willi Hoepner . He played his last fight as a professional boxer on January 24, 1953 in Istanbul against Jacques Hairabedian, whom he lost by giving up in the 6th round.

Thereafter, Albert Yvel ended his career.
