Albert Zander (born January 1, 1864 in Colmar near Posen ; † August 12, 1897 in Berlin ) was a German engineer , photographer and entrepreneur . He was instrumental in the creation of the German tabloid press .

As an engineer, he was initially employed at the Berlin machine works Carl Flohr . On May 26, 1895, Zander photographed a fire that broke out on the company premises. Two of his recordings of this event were published by the Berliner Illustrirten Zeitung .

Together with a partner, the businessman and photographer Siegmund Labisch , who also comes from the Posen area , he founded the photo studio Zander & Labisch-Illustrations-Photographen in Berlin on June 19, 1895 , which developed into the first German photo agency that worked in the spirit of photojournalism created and distributed daily recordings for press organs.

The photo studio developed considerably until Zander's early death: ten percent of all press photos published by the Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung in 1897 came from Zander & Labisch.
