Alberto Alemán Zubieta
Alberto Alemán Zubieta (* 1951 in Panama City ) is an engineer from Panama . He from 1996 until 2012, first as administrator of the Panama Canal Commission and since 1999 as CEO of the Panama Canal Authority for the management of the Panama Canal responsible.

Alemán studied engineering at Texas A&M University and then worked as an engineer and later managing director of one of the largest engineering firms in Panama.
Professional activity in connection with the Panama Canal
In 1995, his company was commissioned to review plans drawn up by the US Army Corps of Engineers to rehabilitate the Panama Canal. After this task was successfully completed, Zubieta took over the post of head of the Panama Canal Commission at the request of the then President of Panama, Ernesto Pérez Balladares . In order to make the transition of the administration of the canal as smooth as possible, he was appointed managing director of the Panama Canal Authority as early as 1998, which took over the administration of the canal on December 31, 1999. After the population of Panama voted for it with a large majority in a referendum in 2007, the largest project in the history of the waterway began with the expansion of the canal under Aleman's leadership. On September 4, 2012, he was replaced by Jorge L. Quijano as Chairman of the Panama Canal Authority.
Further commitment
After his retirement, Alemán set up a consulting firm with José Barrios , the former vice chairman and chief financial officer of the Panama Canal Authority. He has also been discussed several times as a candidate for the 2014 presidential election in Panama , but has so far rejected a candidacy.
