Alberto Ascoli

Alberto Ascoli (born August 15, 1877 in Trieste , † September 28, 1957 in Milan ) was an Italian serologist , hygienist and physiological chemist .

He studied in Vienna, Marburg an der Lahn and Pavia . The doctor of medicine he was awarded in 1901 in Vienna and in 1902 in Pavia.

He spent some time as an assistant at the Institute of Obstetrics. He was then deputy director of the Serotherapeutic Institute in Milan.

The Ascoli reaction is used to detect anthrax by thermal precipitation (compare precipitation (immunology) ), that is, on the basis of the prompt annular turbidity when a filtrate of boiled tissue particles is overlaid with the specifically precipitating diagnostic serum.

Ascoli was awarded an Antonio Feltrinelli Prize in 1954 .
