Alberto López Fernández , Alberto for short (born May 20, 1969 in Irun ) is a former Spanish football player who last played at Real Valladolid in the Spanish Primera División .

Player career

Real Sociedad

Alberto played most of his football career with the traditional Basque club Real Sociedad . In 1989 Alberto moved from the amateur club CD Pasajes to RSO. After three years in the B-Team, he quickly became a regular with the "Txuri Urdin" and was always secure. With a total of 346 professional appearances in the first division for Real Sociedad, he is one of the club's record players. His greatest success with San Sebastían was the runner-up in 2002/2003 behind record champions Real Madrid . This was doubly bitter, as the title was only gambled away on the penultimate matchday due to an away defeat at the later Champions League participant Celta Vigo . The following year Alberto also played with his troupe in the "premier class".

The last few years

Although he was always a sure source of support, Alberto was ousted in 2004 by the newly signed Asier Riesgo . When the Chilean national goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was brought in by Colo Colo in the summer of 2006 , Alberto's long-term club was over for Alberto. He went to the second division Real Valladolid with whom he made the promotion and thus the return to the Primera División at the first attempt. Although Alberto was in the promotion season is always a safe backing, but he lost after climbing his place to the younger from Valencia loaned Frenchman Ludovic Butelle . At times he was only 3rd in the internal goalkeeper ranking. Despite his role as a reservist, Alberto López already played seven league games in 2007/2008.
