Alberto Marcellin (born April 10, 1920 in Laval di Pragelato (TO) , Italy ) is a former Italian ski racer . He was a member of the Italian national ski team from 1937 to 1953. In 1937 and 1946 he was Italian downhill champion.

Life

The trained ski instructor achieved his first major success in 1937 when he won the Italian championship title on the Val Gardena Selva slope. The following year he took fourth place in the slalom at the Lauberhorn race .

He took part in Alpine World Ski Championships twice: at the 1939 World Championships in Zakopane , he was the best Italian runner, tenth in the combination. In downhill and slalom he reached ranks 10 and 9. Two years later, the world championship held in Cortina d'Ampezzo was more successful . Marcellin finished in the medal ranks in all three competitions. In the downhill and in the combination, he finished second behind Josef Jennewein, who started for Germany , and third in the slalom. After the end of the Second World War, the International Ski Federation (FIS) subsequently declared this World Championship invalid at a congress in 1946 at the request of the ski federations of the United States, Austria and Belgium, as many nations were unable to take part due to political circumstances. All medals lost their official status after the decision of the FIS and are no longer counted.

In 1946 Marcellin was Italian downhill champion for a second time in Madesimo . In the first 3-tre races in 1950 he finished second in the giant slalom and third in the combination. In the course of his career he competed in around 1,000 ski races.
