Alberto Rey

Alberto Rey (aka Luis Alberto Alzócar Alzócar ; born June 16, 1915 in Curicó ; † April 15, 2001 ) was a Chilean harpist.

Rey began his musical career in Santiago as a member of Los Huasos de Chincolco , one of the first folk music groups in Chile to make recordings. In 1935 he founded a duo with the guitarist Sergio Silva , which lasted fifty years. One of the duo's first recordings at RCA Victor was A las cuatros de la manana , a composition by Rey based on a text by Carlos Ullao Diaz in 1935 .

In 1943 he made his debut at a festival at the Teatro Baquedano in Santiago, he made his debut as a harpist. On a tour of the duo Rey / Silva 1945-46 through Argentina, Rey learned about the Paraguayan harp from the composer Félix Pérez Cardoso . In 1948 Rey and Silva met the singer Mario Catalán Portilla , with whom they recorded titles such as Aló Aló , Arremángate el vestido , Mi caserita and Desde que vine al mundo . From 1953 the duo, which by then had recorded more than fifty albums with RCA Victor, undertook a two-year concert tour through Latin America. On the album Cuacas con escándalo (1970) the duo united important representatives of Chilean folk music, including Mario Catalán , Humberto Campos , Manolo Santis Caravello , Rafael Andrada , Luís Téllez Viera , Luís Téllez Mellado , Luís Araneda , Raúl Lizama , Emilio Olivares and Víctor Oyarzún . In 1991 Rey founded the Los Paleteados del Puerto group in Valparaíso .
