Albertus (antipope)

Albertus was antipope in 1102.

Nothing is known about Albert's origin. Since 1084 he has been the Cardinal Bishop of Silva Candida , which was not reoccupied by Gregory VII after the death of Mainardus and therefore fell to the Wibertines without resistance. After the death of the antipope Clemens III appointed by Emperor Heinrich IV . (Wibert von Ravenna) in 1100, his followers initially chose Theodoricus as his successor. After he was captured by Pope Paschal II and banished to a monastery, the Wibertines elected Albert as their new antipope in 1102. After only 105 days, he was betrayed by his supporters to the rightful Pope and handed over.
