Albion is a place ("Village") on Mauritius .

The place

Albion is part of the Black River District . At the 2011 census, the place had 5,205 inhabitants. The place is the administrative seat of the Village Council Area Albion.

The coast in front of the place is (like everywhere in Mauritius) surrounded by reefs. A number of ships ran aground here. The best known is the sinking of the Banda in 1615, when Governor Pieter Both died. Therefore, a lighthouse was built on the coast of Albion at the Pointe aux Caves at the beginning of the 20th century ( 20 ° 11 ′ 28.6 ″  S , 57 ° 24 ′ 41.5 ″  E ). On October 3, 1910, this 46 meter high lighthouse was put into operation by Governor Sir Cavandish Boyle . Despite the lighthouse, another ship accident occurred in 1915, in which the Carnarec sank.

A Club Med chain hotel has been located in Albion since 2007 ( 20 ° 13 ′ 2.3 ″  S , 57 ° 23 ′ 55.1 ″  E ).
