The Berlin Medical Society has been awarding this science medal at irregular intervals since 1981 , which is named after the founder of the field of ophthalmology , the German doctor Albrecht von Graefe . Albrecht von Graefe was also the company's first chairman.

medal

The obverse shows the ideal portrait of Albrecht von Graefe in profile as well as his name and his life dates in inscription. The words “Berlin Medical Society” are embossed in capital letters on the lapel .

The coin is probably made in silver.

history

Before Robert Gallo was awarded the medal in 2002, it was determined that all medals had been awarded. In 2001, Ernst Ruska loaned the medal from the archive of the Max Planck Society , which served as a template for a new issue.

The Albrecht von Graefe Medal should not be confused with the Graefe Medal of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) .
