Albrecht Hummel

Albrecht Hummel (born February 11, 1949 in Horburg ) is a German sports educator .

Life

After Hummel completed his training as an electrician, he studied sports and geography at the Potsdam University of Education from 1967 to 1971 and then sports science with a focus on movement / sports motor skills. In 1975 he completed his doctoral thesis in sports science and then worked at the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences in Berlin . In 1982 he completed his habilitation in the field of general didactics / university education.

From 1990 onwards, Hummel was involved in research projects that dealt with the transformation of children's and youth sports schools in the GDR into the educational realities of the Federal Republic.

Hummel was appointed professor for sports education and sports didactics at the Technical University of Chemnitz in 1993 . From 2000 to 2006 Albrecht Hummel was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the TU Chemnitz, from 2007 to 2012 he was Vice Rector for Teaching, Studies and Further Education. In 2014 he retired.

His main research interests included school sports (also in connection with competitive sports and in terms of sports history in the GDR) “the conception of basic physical and sports education”, sports equipment and sports facility development, the movement behavior of children and adolescents in everyday life as well as sports developments in totalitarian societies .
