Albrecht II (Murrhardt)

Albrecht II († before April 25, 1320 in Murrhardt ) was a Catholic priest , Benedictine and abbot of the St. Januarius monastery in Murrhardt.

Live and act

After the death of his predecessor Milo of Weiler Albrecht was in 1314 by the Convention elected the monastery Murrhardt new abbot.

There is reason to believe that this monastery head is a son of Count Albrecht I von Löwenstein . If so, then the monastery was at that time, in contrast to the term of office of Abbot Milos, in direct dependency on the County of Löwenstein and so strongly under the influence of the Count's monastery bailiff, Nikolaus von Löwenstein, that he managed to control the abbot elections.

The fact that another son of Albrecht I, Gerhard von Löwenstein, succeeded in appropriating the income from three monastic parish churches - Murrhardt, Westheim and Großbottwar - also speaks in favor of the dignity of a representative from the house of the Counts of Löwenstein . This process was downright scandalous from a canonical point of view at the time, as Gerhard von Löwenstein was only 15 years old at the time and therefore completely unsuitable for the exercise of a pastor's office. To the extent that, unlike in similar cases in the history of the Murrhardt monastery, the abbot did not protest, it is reasonable to assume that Albrecht, the head of the Murrhardt Abbey, was benevolent towards such an accumulation of monastery foundations by Gerhard von Löwenstein in the sense of the medieval understanding of the family.

Before Albrecht finally managed to settle his personal concerns of an anniversary foundation of Count Albrecht I von Löwenstein, who had found his final resting place in the Murrhardt monastery church, as documented, he died shortly before April 25, 1320 in the monastery Murrhardt. Heinrich succeeded him as abbot .
