Albrecht Ludwig Keferstein (born April 10, 1792 in Cröllwitz , † December 26, 1872 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German entrepreneur. He is one of the pioneers of the industrial revolution in Halle (Saale).

Life

He was the son of Philipp Sebastian Ludwig Keferstein (1754-1834), a paper maker and paper merchant, and his wife (marriage October 14, 1790), the daughter Rahel Charlotte (1765-1845) of the paper manufacturer Gabriel Christoph Drewsen in Lachendorf near Celle. In addition to his brother Leberecht Adolf Orlando Keferstein , he had four siblings. His parents' house was destroyed in 1799 when the Saale flooded .

During the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia he learned his father's trade and then took an active part in the Wars of Liberation , where he rose to an officer in a Silesian infantry regiment. In 1820 he quit military service and took over his father's paper mill in Cröllwitz, where he employed 67 people. However, it burned down in 1823. The following year he led the reconstruction and expanded the mill considerably until 1846. During this time he founded the company Keferstein & Germar , which he converted to Keferstein & Sohn in 1848 . The most important bookshops and printers in Halle, Leipzig and Magdeburg obtained the paper from Cröllwitz.

When Keferstein celebrated his fiftieth papermaking anniversary on April 7, 1857, he was awarded the title of Kommerzienrat by the king. He was also a member of the Prussian mansion and city council in Halle (1856-1860). In 1825 he was accepted into the Masonic lodge to the three swords .
