from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albrecht Müller (born March 13, 1819 in Basel ; † July 3, 1890 there ) was a Swiss geologist and mineralogist .

Müller was a businessman, but was interested in geology and trained as an autodidact, supported by the geologist and Basel councilor Peter Merian . In 1846 he became secretary of the Natural Research Society in Basel and worked at the Natural History Museum in Basel , where he was in charge of the mineralogical collection. In 1852 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel, completed his habilitation in 1854 and became an associate professor in 1861. From 1866 he was a full professor in the newly established chair for mineralogy and geology.

He dealt with the geology of Basel and the surrounding area and in particular the Swiss Jura (like his patron Merian).
