Albrecht von Baden (born January 25, 1455 in Hachberg , † July 23, 1488 in Damme ) was a non-ruling margrave of Baden .

Life

He was the second son of Margrave Karl I of Baden and Catherine of Austria .

Albrecht was involved in his father's negotiations with Margrave Rudolf IV von Hachberg-Sausenberg about a merger of the Breisgau estates of both houses, which, however, was not negotiated until 1490 by Rudolf's son, Philipp and Albrecht's brother Christoph.

After the death of his father (1475) he left the government as margrave to his older brother Christoph for six years . In 1482 the country was divided under the supervision of Margrave Rudolf IV von Hachberg-Sausenberg. Albrecht received the margraviate of Baden-Hachberg as an inheritance.

However, Albrecht returned his share to Christoph in return for a pension payment, so that the territory remained de facto undivided. When Albrecht died childless in 1488, Baden-Hachberg finally reverted to Christoph.

On February 16, 1486, Albrecht was present at the election of Archduke Maximilian in Frankfurt am Main as Roman-German King . During the coronation celebrations in Aachen , Albrecht was one of the 200 nobles who were knighted.

Albrecht and his brother Christoph supported the Habsburgs in their fight against the uprising in Flanders. Albrecht was to storm the city of Damme with his troops, where he was fatally hit by a bullet.
