The Alcock Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The lake is located on Butter Crag below the Heron Pike east of Grasmere . The Alcock Tarn was known as Butter Crags Tarn until the end of the 19th century . Since a Mr. Alcock from Grasmere then dammed it up with a small dam to put trout in it, it then changed its name.
