The Aldabradrongo ( Dicrurus aldabranus ) is a species of bird from the family of Drongos .
It is endemic to the Seychelles on the island of Aldabra . There is only a small population of about 1,000 individuals.
The distribution area includes tropical mangrove and cassowary forests as well as dense shrubbery.
description
The Aldabradrongo is about 23 cm tall and weighs between 40 and 53 g. The plumage is deep black and shiny throughout with an even dark blue sheen, darker on the elytra and the long forked tail. The hook-shaped beak is strong with long feathers at the base of the beak, the iris is dark red. In the young bird, the upper side is gray-brown, the underside pale brown (unusual for a dongo) with dark dashes, the tail is shorter and the eye brown.

The call of the male is described as loud and noisy with a very wide repertoire of calls and melodies with drongotypical squeaks, clicks and whistles.
The species is monotypical .
Way of life
The diet consists mainly of insects as well as small geckos and lizards . The drongo also hunts prey from other birds and acts aggressively against intruders during the breeding season.
The breeding season is between September and November (first nests) and March to May (last fledgling offspring).
