Aldobrandy wedding
The Aldobrandini Wedding , so named after the first owner, Cardinal Cinzio Passeri Aldobrandini , is a Roman fresco from the Augustan era.
It was found in 1606 (1605 according to other sources) near the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome in the former gardens of the Maecenas and has been in the Vatican Library since 1818 , which is now part of the Vatican Museums .
In the middle of the picture you can see the bridal chamber, the bride veiled sitting on the bridal bed, next to her the goddess of persuasion ( Peitho ) as the bride's mother and a virgin with a bowl and an ointment vessel. In a back room there are women who prepare the bridal bath. To the right, close to the bridal chamber, sits the waiting bridegroom on a dais while the muses sing the bride's song.
Johann Joachim Winckelmann saw in the picture a representation of the wedding of Peleus and Thetis .
