Alec Potts (born February 9, 1996 in Clayton , Victoria ) is an Australian archer .

Career

Alec Potts was born in Clayton , Victoria and grew up in Orpington , now a part of London , where he learned fencing in addition to archery . In 2007 the family returned to Australia and moved to Melbourne . Alec Potts joined the Aim Archery Club in Cheltenham , Victoria there . In 2011 he made his international debut. His trainer is Michael Pless .

In 2015 Potts took part in the 2015 World Championships in Copenhagen, where he lost 7-1 to Sweden's Jonas Lennart Andersson in the individual competition after defeating the Brazilian Bernardo Oliveira in the second round and was eliminated. In the team competition he reached together with Taylor Worth and Ryan Tyack by losing in the quarterfinals, eighth place in 58 participating nations.

Alec Potts took part in the Olympic Games for the first time at the age of 20 as part of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In the team competition he came together with Taylor Worth and Ryan Tyack after victories over Malaysia and France to the semi-finals, where they lost 6-0 to the eventual Olympic champion South Korea. Then they defeated China 6-2 in the small final and won the bronze medal. This was the first team medal for Australia in archery at the Olympics. After he was 20th in the placement round in the individual competition, he lost directly in the first round with 4: 6 against the Brazilian Bernardo Oliveira and was eliminated early.

Alec Pott lives with his family in Mount Eliza , Victoria . He has a younger sister, Emily.
