Aleksandar Despić

Aleksandar Despić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Александар Деспић ; born January 6, 1927 in Belgrade ; † April 7, 2005 ) was a Serbian physicist. From 1994 to 1998 he was President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

Despić studied at the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London and taught as a professor at the Technical Faculty of Belgrade University . His research area was electrochemistry .

Despić caused a sensation with his 1996/97 proposed plan for the partition of Kosovo , which - ahead of its surroundings - included the independence of the Albanian part, but at the same time also provided for ethnic resettlement.
