Johannes Hablik

Johannes Hablik (born October 11, 1980 ) is a German athlete. He has been paraplegic since a sports accident in November 2002.

Athletic career

Hablik was already a seven year old Hessian master in gymnastics . In the 1990s he discovered the German all- around competition, a form of competition that combines apparatus gymnastics and athletics . He started for the gymnastics club Ober-Ramstadt and was German champion in all-around competitions twice in a row .

Education

From the 2001/02 winter semester he studied sports science and computer science at the Technical University of Darmstadt , a combination that should guarantee him constant contact with sport, for example in the event management of sporting events. This was one of his ideal formulations.

accident

On 3 November 2002, the at that time 22-year-old suffered with one national league competition in Eppertshausen a paraplegic . After a hand injury, he only took part in floor exercises. When attempting a one and a half somersault forward, which is completed with a direct roll, he hit the ground with his head first and injured his cervical spine . It turned out that the injury was so severe that he has since been paralyzed from the fourth cervical vertebra down.

He suffered from respiratory and cardiac arrests several times, and received intensive medical care at the Accident Clinic in Frankfurt am Main . Only after three months did his condition slowly stabilize, so that a rehabilitation phase in a Heidelberg rehabilitation clinic was considered.

Future for Johannes Hablik e. V.

Friends of Johannes Hablik founded a support association in January 2003, which is supposed to make it possible to secure long-term care for the paraplegic and to support the family. This goal is to be achieved by building networks, recruiting members and donors, organizing benefit events or stimulating them through third parties and soliciting support from foundations and other charitable organizations. There are also plans to set up a wage-proof pension fund, which is intended to secure Hablik's standard of living in the long term.

Numerous prominent gymnasts took part in fundraising events for the benefit of Hablik.
