The BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt am Main gGmbH is one of the nine professional association acute clinics in Germany and is located in the Seckbach district .

The main tasks of the clinic include providing first aid to all medical emergencies, caring for critically injured patients and treating all types of injuries. The aim is to heal and recover patients, especially after work and commuting accidents . In the emergency room, injured patients are cared for regardless of the location of the accident.

As a supra-regional trauma surgical trauma center with 390 beds, the BG Unfallklinik, with its eleven specialist departments and numerous special outpatient clinics, treats over 10,000 inpatients and - together with its subsidiaries - around 72,000 outpatients per year. With over 5,000 emergency doctor visits a year, the emergency doctor location of the BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt am Main is one of the largest in all of Hesse. The BG Unfallklinik is the location of the rescue helicopter Christoph 2 and the emergency doctor vehicle (NEF1). The clinic also provides doctors for the Central Crisis Intervention Team, who help Germans in need abroad.

history

The professional association accident clinic was opened in 1962. It was planned and built by the Schlempp architecture firm, the architect was H. Murat Salahor. They are sponsored by the employers' liability insurance association, which was initially known as the “Association for Healing and Occupational Care, Special Station Taunus e. V. “(later: Association for Professional Association Healing Treatment Frankfurt am Main eV) merged in 1955. The only task of the association should initially be to set up a special station for accident victims in the Taunus. After considering a possible location, task and size of the facility, it was agreed in May 1957 to build an accident hospital in Frankfurt am Main instead of a special ward in the Taunus.

In the year the clinic was founded, not only was the Klinomobil, which was replaced by the emergency doctor's vehicle (NAW 2) in 1966, used for the first time, but the department for spinal cord injuries was also opened. In 1969 the Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery was added - today the Department of Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery . The opening of the department for post-traumatic osteomyelitis , today septic surgery, followed two years later and that of the neurosurgical department in 1972. The rescue helicopter Christoph 2 has also been stationed at the BGU since that year . In 1974 the conversion of the orthopedic workshops was completed, three years later the nine-story high-rise bed building was put into operation, which was increased by four floors and a hangar for Christoph 2 over twenty years later. From 1982 to 1993, the new or reconstruction of the polyclinic, the operation department and intensive care unit and the expansion of the A and B building were completed.

In 2002, the renovation and renovation of the wards for septic surgery and spinal cord injuries was completed. The psychotraumatological center for diagnostics and therapy planning and the departments for orthopedic and traumatological foot surgery as well as sports orthopedics, knee and shoulder surgery were established two and three years later, respectively. In 2006 the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new construction and renovation of the clinic. In 2008 the center for spinal surgery and neurotraumatology opened, the new biomechanics laboratory was inaugurated and the science area was further expanded. The new rescue helicopter of the type EC 135 T2i went into service. In the following year, the BGU Frankfurt am Main was certified as a supra-regional trauma center in the trauma network Hessen Süd. In the same year, the Center for Spine Surgery and Neurotraumatology at the BGU was the first German clinic to be accredited as a reference center for AOSpine (the world's largest association of spine specialists).

In 2010, the daycare center on the BGU site was rebuilt as a passive house and additional spaces were added. The new building was ready for occupancy in spring 2011. A new operating theater area with seven halls, a combined radiology department and a central sterile supplies department, parts of the emergency room, NEF accommodation and a second helicopter landing pad on the roof were moved into. A new operating room was also put into operation at the BGU: the so-called BrainSuite iCT is an integrated operating room that brings together all available information and makes it available to the surgeon. The second construction phase was also started. In 2012 the Main.Bgmed Rehazentrum GmbH was opened on the premises of the BGU.

In 2015 the BG Unfallklinik became an academic teaching hospital for the medical department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , and from October the clinic acted as BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt am Main gGmbH . One year later, the nine professional association acute clinics, two clinics for occupational diseases (since 2020 one clinic for occupational diseases) and two accident treatment centers were operated as a company with a holding structure, BG Kliniken gGmbH. In 2018, the health center was renovated, the helipad was modernized and Intensive Care Unit 2 was opened.
