Aleksander Gabszewicz

Aleksander Klemens Gabszewicz (born December 6, 1911 in Szawle , † October 10, 1983 in Malvern , Worcestershire ) was a Polish fighter pilot in World War II .

Military career

In 1931 Gabszewicz joined the Polish military. At first he served in the infantry. In 1938 he completed his flight training. When the Second World War broke out on September 1, 1939, he shot down a Heinkel He 111 together with Andrzej Niewiara .

He was able to leave for France. There he flew a Bloch MB.151 .

After France surrendered, he fled to Great Britain. There he fought in the Royal Air Force . He belonged among other things to the No. 607 Squadron, No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron and the 316th Polish Fighter Squadron.

At the end of the Second World War he held the rank of brigadier general . He achieved 9½ confirmed and 2 unconfirmed victories. He remained in exile in Great Britain until his death.
