No Return is a French thrash and death metal band from Paris , which was founded in 1984 under the name Evil Power . The band was the first French band to play in Norway at the Hole in the Sky Festival. She also played at the Summer Breeze in Germany .

history

The band was founded in 1984 under the name Evil Power. In 1989 the band changed their name to No Return and consisted of singer Philippe Ordon, bassist Laurent Janaut, guitarist Eric le Baron, drummer Didier le Baron and guitarist Alain Clement. In 1990 the band reached a contract with Semetery Records . The band went to the Phoenix Studio in Germany to record their debut album. As a producer was Marquis Marky , drummer of Coroner , active. After the release of the album Psychological Torment , appearances with Sacred Reich and Exhorder followed .

In 1991 the band went to Morrisound Recording in Florida , with Tom Morris as a producer. The album Contamination Rises was released in 1992. This was followed by concerts with Coroner, Napalm Death and Sepultura .

After singer Ordon left the band in 1992, he was replaced by Tanguy. Then the band went to Switzerland in the Studio des Forces Motrices with producer David Weber . The album Season of the Soul was released in 1995. The release was followed by concerts with Massacra , Loudblast and Crusher . This was followed by the recording of the EP Red Embers , again with producer David Weber in the Studio des Foces Motrices. This was followed by appearances in France and Belgium with Lofofora , as well as concerts with Loudblast, Motörhead and Edge of Sanity .

Tanguy left the band in 1998 and was replaced by singer Laurent Plainchamp, before he was replaced the following year by Steeve "Zuul" Petit. This was followed by work on the album Self Mutilation . Towards the end of 1999, the band went to the studio of Alexis Phélipot , Misanthrope's drummer . After the recordings, Benoît "Ben" Antonia joined the band as a second guitarist. In addition, keyboardist Malko Pouchin joined the group. Self Mutilation was released through Kodiak Records . Appearances in France, Belgium and Austria followed. This was followed by a one-week tour with Darkside across Europe .

In October 2001 the band recorded the album Machinery at CCR Studios in Belgium and mixed it in France at FunMasters Studios . The band reached a contract for three albums with Nuclear Blast in January 2002 , on which Machinery was also released. Olivia Scemama joined the band as the new bass player. Tours and festival appearances followed, such as at the Summer Breeze Festival, where bands such as Dimmu Borgir , Pro-Pain , Tiamat , Samael , Soilwork , Dark Tranquility and Nightwish were represented.

Then the band went to Bergen (Norway) to play at the Hole in the Sky Fest. In October 2002 Malko Pouchin left the band, during which time the band was on tour through Europe with Nile and Sinister .

In May 2003 singer Petit left the band and was replaced by Moreno Grosso in September. In November the band recorded pieces for another album. At the end of 2004, bassist Olivia Herol left the band and was replaced by Loïc Colin ( Scarve ).

In 2006 the album No Return was released through Season of Mist .

In 2008 another album followed on Dockyard 1 , which was called Manipulated Mind .

style

The band plays a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal, with the vocals being kept very aggressive. The use of samples is also particularly characteristic .
