Aleksander Michałowski (pianist)
Aleksander Michałowski (born May 17, 1851 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj ; † October 17, 1938 in Warsaw ) was a Polish pianist , music teacher and composer .
Michałowski studied in Leipzig with Ignaz Moscheles and Carl Reinecke and in Berlin with Carl Tausig . In 1868 he made his debut in the Leipzig Gewandhaus with Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto in E minor. His interpretation of Chopin's works, which was admired by Franz Liszt , was shaped by his friend, Chopin's student Karol Mikuli . There are recordings by Michałowski from 1905, 1912 and the 1930s.
From 1874 he lived in Warsaw, where he taught at the Music Institute . In 1891 he received the title of professor. Wanda Landowska , Mischa Levitzki , Wladimir Sofronizki and Heinrich Neuhaus are among his numerous important students . As a composer he made a number of small piano pieces.
