Alex Braune (* 1880 ; † 1942 ) was the operator of several successful variety and cabaret stages in the first decades of the 20th century (until 1927 in Berlin, then until 1935 in Gera, Erfurt and Danzig, Lübeck).

Life

During his military service from 1900 to 1902 in the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 5 , he discovered his theatrical inclination and his organizational talent. When he married the daughter of a restaurateur in 1906, his future career path was mapped out. Since 1907, the Berlin address books have listed Alex Braune as an innkeeper and operator of variety theaters in the vicinity of Alexanderplatz: 1907 Braune & Schwenzin's Varieté-Theater in Alexanderstrasse 39/40 (on the site of the former Bunter Brettl , but in a building newly constructed in 1906) , In 1909 the Neue Holzhackerhütten in Königstraße 26a, and finally from around 1910 in Alexanderstraße 55 Café Braune , Hopfenblüte and Braune's Diele .

After another military service during the First World War , Braune opened the Metropol Cabaret in 1918 at Behrenstrasse 54 . There had Rudolf Nelson presents its programs in a variety stage of the same name already 1910th From 1928 onwards, under the direction of Ralph Arthur Roberts, it was named Theater in Behrenstrasse .

As Braune increasingly concentrated on business, the artistic direction of the establishments was temporarily in different hands. In 1919, for example, Karl Heinzius , a silent film actor and lecturer, was responsible for the management in Braunes Diele .

In 1926, Alex Braune took over the Tonhalle in Gera , where he created various gastronomic and entertainment options: the night cabaret “Trocadero” ( redesigned interior design by Thilo Schoder ), a concert café, the rustic inn “Krug zum green Kranze” and that Open air variety "Paradise Garden". Alex Braune lived in the garden city Heinrichsgrün (Gera) .

A stroke in the 1930s ended his entrepreneurial career.
