Alexander Hershaw "Alex" Parker (born August 2, 1935 in Irvine , † January 7, 2010 ) was a Scottish football player and coach.
career
Parker began his professional career in 1952 with FC Falkirk in the Scottish First Division. As a regular, the defender drew the attention of those responsible for the Scottish national team and made his debut in the team in 1955. In 1957, he won the Scottish National Cup with the team by a 2-1 win in the replay against FC Kilmarnock . A year later he was part of the squad for the 1958 World Cup . Following the tournament, he moved to the First Division for Everton FC . However, his debut for the new club was delayed because he was first called up for military service in Cyprus . In 1963 he won the English championship with the team. Two years later he went to Southport FC after several injuries before moving to Ballymena United in Northern Ireland in 1968 . He later retired from Ireland's Drumcondra FC .
After retiring, he first trained at his former Southport FC play station. He later ran a pub in Gretna and trained lower-class clubs on the side.
