Alex Poelman

Alex Poelman (born July 18, 1981 in Arnhem ) is a Dutch horn player and composer .

life and career

At the age of 11 he started playing the horn in a local music club . After graduating from university , he moved to Enschede to study computer science at the university there. As a horn player he was active in the youth wind orchestra of the Netherlands, as well as in the wind orchestra "Wilhelmina Glanerbrug", one of the best amateur orchestras in the Netherlands, in which he still plays today.

During his studies he began to compose pieces for small ensembles and later also for wind orchestras . His first composition for wind band was Volcano (2001), his first symphony "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" (2004) was a great success and is performed all over the world. The world premiere took place with the "Wilhelmina Glanerbrug" wind orchestra, later his compositions were also recorded by the KMKJWF (Koninklijke Militaire Kapel "Johan Willem Friso") as part of a CD production. Well-known compositions that followed are e.g. B. D-Day, Jeanne d'Arc or Pinocchio. His pieces are played by orchestras all over the world, for example in the USA, Brazil, Japan and all of Europe. The compositions have been published by "Molenaar Edition BV" since 2003.
