Alex Strasser
Alexander "Alex" Strasser (born 1898 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died September 3, 1974 in London , United Kingdom ) was an Austrian filmmaker, active in Germany and Great Britain in various fields of work (including experimental direction, representation, camera, production, equipment and cut).
Life
Strasser took his first steps in German silent film as a camera assistant. In the course of the 1920s he made an attempt as an actor (Cabinet Councilor Stelter in Gerhard Lamprecht's Der alten Fritz ) and from the same year (1927) began directing films (the experimental short film "Die Landpartie" ). At the side of Lotte Reiniger , he participated in the production of the silhouette film "Grotesken im Schnee" the following year, and another year later (1929) with Erwin Piscator in the short experimental film "The Merchant of Berlin". In the early talkies, Alex Strasser also directed short films with play scenes. As a Jew, Strasser remained largely isolated in Germany from the beginning of 1933. In 1934 Strasser fled to London, where he now dealt with the production of scientific films. At times he was also head of a training center for aspiring photographers, the Reimann School of Photography.
