Alexander (son of Polyperchon)

Alexandros ( Greek  Ἀλέξανδρος , Latin Alexander ; * before 334 BC; † 314 BC ), was a Macedonian general during the Diadoch Wars . He was a son of the imperial administrator Polyperchon , his wife was the Macedonian noblewoman Kratesipolis .

At the conference of Triparadeisus Alexander was made bodyguard ( somatophylax ) of King Philip III by the regent Antipater . Arrhidaios appointed. During the Second Diadoch War he fought for his father against Kassander , the son of Antipater. He was born in the spring of 317 BC. Sent to Attica , where he was supposed to obtain the surrender of the Piraeus from the commander Nikanor . Despite an additional authorization from Queen Olympias , he failed because Nikanor sided with Kassander.

After the defeat of his father in 316 BC. Alexander moved with him to the Peloponnese . During the Third Diadoch War he acted 315 BC. But shortly afterwards he betrayed his father and went over to the side of Kassander, who appointed him his strategist in the Peloponnese. Alexander brought several cities into the alliance, especially Sikyon and Corinth , over which he now ruled independently.

During a campaign against enemy cities, Alexander was murdered by his own warriors. The assassins came from Sikyon and believed that with this act they would regain the autonomy of their city. But his widow Kratesipolis took bloody retribution on the city and forced it to recognize her rule.
