Alexander Besser

Eduard Alexander Besser (born October 27, 1899 in Forst / Lausitz ; † July 8, 1978 in Offenbach ) was a German lawyer and journalist.

Life

Alexander Besser was born as the son of Julius Besser and his wife Sara, b. Doctor, a liberal Jewish family, was born in Forst and grew up in the Mark Brandenburg . First he studied law and political science at the University of Breslau , later at the University of Berlin . In 1927 he received his doctorate with a paper on Max Ernst Mayer's theory of cultural norms and settled in Berlin as a lawyer . From 1931 to 1932 he worked in the management of the law enforcement agency in Berlin. After the National Socialists seized power , he was banned from working. Now he worked in the emigration office ( Palestine Office of the Jewish Agency for Palestine ), which was recognized by the Reich Ministry of the Interior as a non-profit advice center. In 1938, as his personal security was threatened, he fled into exile in Palestine , where he turned to journalism in Tel Aviv for the magazine " Hakidmah " . In 1950 he returned to Germany and was admitted as a lawyer for an American authority in Frankfurt am Main , but also worked as a business journalist for the “Allgemeine Wochenzeitung der Juden in Deutschland” and as a commentator for radio and television ( Südwestfunk , Hessen Fernsehen , Westdeutscher Rundfunk and Deutschlandfunk ) and became known to a broad public. In 1964 he married Rita Heinze and moved with her to Walldorf-Mörfelden. Alexander Besser died in 1978 in a traffic accident in Offenbach. His wife Rita set up the "Dr. Alexander Besser and Rita Besser Foundation" to promote education and upbringing. Peter Härtling created a literary monument for him with the novel "Felix Guttmann".
