Alexander Boksenberg

Alexander Boksenberg (born March 18, 1936 ) is a British physicist and astronomer .

Life

Boksenberg was Professor of Physics and Astronomy at University College London from 1978 to 1981 . He was then until 1989 professor of astronomy at the University of Sussex . From 1981 to 1996 he was director of the Royal Greenwich Observatory and the Royal Observatory Edinburgh . 1996-1999 he was Honorary Professor of Experimental Astronomy at the University of Cambridge .

Boksenberg conducts research in the field of active galaxy nuclei, the intergalactic medium and interstellar gas in early galaxies. After his retirement he continues to work at the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge.

The asteroid (3205) Boksenberg , discovered on June 25, 1979, was named after him in 1988.
