Alexander Ferrauti

Alexander Ferrauti (born August 7, 1960 in Brühl ) is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Ferrauti passed his Abitur in 1979 in Hürth and studied sports science and biology in Cologne from 1980 to 1988. From 1985 the holder of an A tennis coach license, who also acted as a science advisor and coach trainer at the German Tennis Association , was a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Games at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS). In 1992 his doctoral thesis on the subject of "tennis doubles and player observation" was accepted at the DSHS and was awarded the "Toyota Prize". From 1992 to 1998 he was a research assistant. In 1997 he also completed his habilitation at the sports university. The title of his work was “The energy metabolism in tennis. A training-based analysis with practical recommendations for competitive and popular sports ”. From 1998 to 2002 Ferrauti worked as a university lecturer at the DSHS.

In 2002 he took up a professorship in the field of training science at the Faculty of Sports Science at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). He was a member of the RUB Senate and was Dean of the Faculty from 2013 to 2017. Between 2011 and 2017, Ferrauti was a member of the spokesperson for the Training Science section of the German Association for Sports Science (dvs). He served as Congress President of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) in 2017 and was elected to the Executive Committee of the ECSS in 2019.

Ferrauti teaches the subject of training science in bachelor's and master's degrees. His main research interests include training-scientific and performance-physiological aspects of tennis and he was one of the authors of the work “Handbook for Tennis Training”. He also deals with other sports games, for example with regard to aspects of performance diagnostics and sports nutrition. The subject areas of his sports science activities also include young talent sports, also with regard to the search for and promotion of talent, recreational sports, senior sports and regeneration management in competitive sports.
