Geological map of the Everest region in 1921 by Heron

He took part in the British expedition to Mount Everest in 1921 under the direction of Charles Howard-Bury and at that time explored the mountain region around Mount Everest geologically. Henry Morsehead and Oliver Wheeler were surveyors for the expedition and George Mallory , Harold Raeburn and Alexander Mitchell Kellas were among the climbers. Since, according to the Tibetan authorities, he had been looking for precious stones in sacred mountains and had aroused the displeasure of the demons, a diplomatic protest took place, which prevented him from participating in the following expedition in 1922.
