Alexander Nanau

Alexander Nanau (born May 18, 1979 in Bucharest ) is a German-Romanian director , cameraman, screenwriter and documentary filmmaker .

Life

Nanau spent the first years of his childhood in Romania. Belonging to the German minority, he came to Germany with his parents in 1990. In Berlin he studied film directing at the Film and Television Academy . His first documentary was directed in 2006 by Peter Zadek Peer Gynt , in which the directing process of Peter Zadek and his crew is shown. Lumea văzută de Ion B. followed in 2009. The film about a homeless artist won the International Emmy Award in 2010 . In 2014 Nanau realized Toto și surorile lui . The film about three Roma siblings was nominated for the European Film Prize 2015 and was awarded the Prix France Culture Cinéma at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2016 . With his documentary film Colectiv , for which he was responsible for the direction, script, camera, editing and production, he won the International Documentary Competition at the 15th Zurich Film Festival 2019.
