Alexander Naumann (chemist)
Alexander Nikolaus Franz Naumann (born July 31, 1837 in Eudorf , † March 16, 1922 in Gießen ) was a German chemist and university professor.
Naumann studied chemistry at the University of Giessen and received his doctorate there in 1859 . He then moved first to the Higher Trade School Darmstadt , a predecessor of the TH Darmstadt , and in 1860 to the University of Tübingen . From there he returned to Gießen, where he initially worked as a grammar school teacher and completed his habilitation in 1864. In 1869 he received an extraordinary professorship and in 1882, as the successor to Justus von Liebig, a full professorship in theoretical chemistry, which he held until his retirement in 1913.
