Alexander Sauer

Alexander Sauer (born August 21, 1976 in Coimbra ) has been Head of the Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production (EEP) at the University of Stuttgart and the Energy Efficiency Systems department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) since January 2015 . Alexander Sauer joined the management team at Fraunhofer IPA on January 1, 2020.

Life

Alexander Sauer studied mechanical engineering and business administration at RWTH Aachen University , where he received his doctorate in 2005, where he managed various national and international research and industrial projects.

At the Aachen Laboratory for Machine Tools and Operations Management (WZL), he headed the corporate development department and the aachen tool and mold construction competence center until 2006. He then switched to the automotive supplier Hoerbiger Automotive Komfortsysteme GmbH , where he was deputy managing director for the areas of production planning, logistics, maintenance and production in Germany, the USA and Eastern Europe from 2006 to 2010.

From 2011 until he was appointed to the University of Stuttgart , he held a professorship at the University of Applied Sciences Munich (HAW) and headed the laboratory for applied manufacturing technology there. Since January 2015 he has headed the Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production (EEP) at the University of Stuttgart and the Energy Efficiency Systems department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Engineering and Automation (IPA).

Alexander Sauer is known to a wider public through the energy efficiency index of German industry. The survey, based on the model of the Ifo Business Climate Index, determines every six months the attitude of companies to the efficient use of electricity and heat as well as their planned and actual activities in this field.

Private

Alexander Sauer is married and has two children.

Work areas

The scientific focus of his research institute is in the field of energy and resource efficiency in production. He is involved in the following initiatives:

  • Since 2016 member of the jury of the funding program "Resource-Efficient Technologies Baden-Württemberg - ReTech-BW" 2015/16,

  • Since 2010 assessor as technical expert for the EUREKA Secretariat AISBL
  • From 2009 to 2012 expert for the working group of industrial research associations "Otto von Guericke" eV (AiF)
