Alexander Scherer (born September 30, 1945 in Borgsdorf ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Scherer, who grew up on the Lower Rhine , studied free graphics and painting at the Werkkunstschule in Krefeld . He spent his master class semester mainly in New York City , where he made his first contacts with the independent film scene. After his return in 1967 he started a traineeship at UFA Werbefilm in Düsseldorf . Was hired as a director and writer in the same year. He directed over 60 commercials , but then turned more and more to image and PR films. Freelance writer and director since 1972. Invitations and participation in national and international festivals and congresses. He has been awarded numerous prizes and diplomas. He has won the German Business Film Prize of the Federal Republic and the Gold Medal of the New York Festival several times. In 1985 he co-founded the N / W / F economic film and television production. 1995 Director of the successful NDR television film Is Mausi rausi ?! , which has now achieved cult status. In addition to his film work, he wrote repeatedly about his adopted home Düsseldorf. In 2008 his volume Düsseldorf appeared in the Pastfinder series , which focuses on Düsseldorf's role in Nazi Germany.
