Location of Borgsdorf in Brandenburg

Borgsdorf is a district of the city of Hohen Neuendorf in the northern Berlin area . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1375 and incorporated into Hohen Neuendorf ( Oberhavel district , Brandenburg ) on December 6, 1993 .

geography

The place is mainly characterized by single-family and row houses. But there are also some apartment buildings and residential complexes. A special feature is the “Venice” water sports complex in which the properties are located on their own Y-shaped canal with a connection to the Havel. In recent years, many free areas have been developed in Borgsdorf and old buildings have been extensively renovated. In addition to housing for young families, more and more apartments for senior citizens have been built.

Geographical location

Borgsdorf is located on the Havel (see also Zehdenick-Spandauer Havelniederung ) and is the northernmost district of the city of Hohen Neuendorf. The place is only connected to the Hohen Neuendorf district by a narrow connection along the river. Borgsdorf extends from the Pinnow residential area in the west to the Barnim Nature Park in the east.

Neighboring communities

In the south Borgsdorf borders on Birkenwerder , in the west on Velten and in the north on the district Lehnitz of the city of Oranienburg .

structure

In addition to the actual settlement areas around the train station and the old town center (so-called "village"), the residential areas Pinnow , Havelhausen and Venice belong to the place.

history

Historical coat of arms of the former municipality of Borgsdorf

The first traces of settlement in the area of today's Borgsdorf can be traced back to the Mesolithic Age according to the list of monuments in Hohen Neuendorf . There were also settlements here in later phases.

The place Borgsdorf was listed for the first time in 1375 in the village directory of the land register of Emperor Charles IV as "Borcharstorff".

In 1653 Luise Henriette von Oranien received the village from her husband, Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg . She wanted to make Borgsdorf a model estate, but was unsuccessful because of the poor quality of the soil. In the following centuries, the owners changed frequently and the population decreased.

With the reorganization of the district structure in Prussia after the Congress of Vienna , Borgsdorf has belonged to the Niederbarnim district since 1818 . In 1840 a major fire destroyed almost the entire village. From around 1850 there were several brickworks - clay mining resulted in the three small lakes Wolfssee, Hubertussee and Börnersee . With the opening of the Berlin Northern Railway in 1877, Borgsdorf began to develop from a farming village to a suburban settlement. In the vicinity of the new train station - somewhat away from the village center at the time - new residential areas were planned as planned.

In 1905 Curt Moll founded a clove growing company. The operation was so successful that in 1937 the carnation was even included in the local coat of arms. The successor company VEG Gartenbau Borgsdorf was also present with its greenhouses in the village. After the reunification in the GDR , new residential areas were built on this site.

In the course of the major district reform in 1952 , Borgsdorf was transferred to the new Oranienburg district . The village of Pinnow , located on the western side of the Havel and belonging to the Osthavelland district , became a district of Borgsdorf. The Havel had thus lost its centuries-old function as a border between different rural districts.

The municipality of Borgsdorf has had a partnership with the city of Fürstenau in Lower Saxony since 1991 . As a result of the merger with Hohen Neuendorf, this partnership was transferred to the city of Hohen Neuendorf. Since September 2014 the station forecourt has been called Fürstenauer Platz in honor of the twin town .

In 1993 Borgsdorf became part of the Hohen Neuendorf community . Hohen Neuendorf has been a town since 1999 and is divided into the districts Bergfelde , Stolpe (since October 26, 2003), Hohen Neuendorf ( core town ) and Borgsdorf.
